Garbage Exemption 2016-2017

It's that time again. The City of Childersburg is doing something else for its citizens.

As per City Ordinance No. 1026 adopted November 5, 2001, some Childersburg residents may be eligible for garbage exemption or reduction in fee amount by meeting the following application criteria. A citizen must meet one or two of three requirements. They are: A.) The Head of Household in whose name the utility meter is listed is age 65 or older. B.) The total combined monthly income of all individuals living in said residence cannot exceed $850.00 per month. C.) The sole income is derived from Social Security Benefits, Supplimental Security Income, or a combination of the two.

Meeting requirements A and B qualifies the applicant for reduction of fees. Persons meeting requirement C qualifies for exemption.

During the months of September and October, the City of Childersburg will be accepting applications from individuals for both new and renewal accounts that meet the named qualifications for reduction or exemption.

Applications may be picked up from City Hall located at 201 8th Avenue SW from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Proof of all income and a copy of your utility bill in your name are required. Also, applications with supporting documents may be mailed to P.O. Box 369. Any related questions should be directed to Ada Hamilton at 256-378-5521 or 5522.
